Very true, but excuse used for 1g was that the light materials (wood) were not available overseas, altho micro-x supplied pole to pole.

An unintended consequence of the 1g rule was even more delicate models. As chords doubled and stab size doubled, stability suffered until length almost doubled to get the Tail Volume up.

The FAI 1.0 gram weight limit came about after the 1970 Champs in the saltmine won by Jiri Kalina. Jiri and others had models well under 0.5g but they were too fragile and many were destroyed in the contest.
