In past couple of years, I have flown commercial airplanes to flying events on the west coast. Each time, I brought my planes and support tools as checked baggage in sturdy, plastic Sterilite footlockers. The footlockers are just at the maximum size for non-oversize baggage so that the standard checked baggage fees applied. All of my and my daughter's planes (SO, LPP, F1L, and ministick) have survived several round trips with no damage whatsoever. It turns out that the footlockers are now for sale at Wal-Mart for just $16.00 each (at my local, Indiana Wal-Mart) or two for $34.00 online (with free to the store shipping):
