It's the other way around: hanger 1 is being maintained and is the hanger we fly in. Hanger 2 is derelict and scheduled to be demolished. Hanger 1 is the location where almost all the indoor flying has taken place since the 1950's. Hanger 2 is oriented so that the prevailing winds from the ocean usually cause a lot of drift. They look about the same outside.
