LPP Pro-Am and BOM, some explanation.

Man, lots of interesting debate going on here lately. Kagan has not been in and I have not read all the posts but I know how the LPP pro-am thing started, and can elaborate.

I have been flying some RC/DLG lately. One thing they do at big contests is to hold a pro-am event on the day before the official contest, along with a flying clinic. A seasoned pro is teamed up via lottery with a newcomer. You time and fly as a pair, so the veteran can help the newbie understand the tasks and learn the ropes. The scores are combined for a team score. It is a great way to build new friendships and motivate those with no contest experience to give it a shot.

I was discussing the concept with Kagan and this is what evolved from it. A newcomer can get a model, and some basic side by side flying help from an indoor legend. That's the idea anyway.

Will it single handedly triple our numbers at USIC? No. But we figure it is worth a shot to possibly encourage more participation. There is no intention to uproot the BOM rule from indoor, nor introduce R/C at USIC.

Now, has anyone else noticed we have a spring contest at Tustin? I am booking a flight tomorrow. This snow today pushed me over the edge. Who else is going to the most storied venue in indoor? "Holy ground mate, holy ground…"
