Newcomers to indoor free flight have several options when it comes to getting the information you refer to. If you are fortunate enough to have a club in your area & haven't yet joined it, do so ASAP. Most club members will assist a newcomer in any way they want including, but not limited to, having them come over to one of our homes to see how we do things, giving them some supplies such as light wood, covering material, etc. Almost with out exception, indoor fliers are willing to share any information they have. There are no secrets.
Obviously, this forum is an excellent source on answers to all the mysteries you referred to.
What catagory/type plane are you buiding? Maybe we can answer your questions if you can be more specific.
