I really think the answer for novice/beginner participation in indoor FF
lies in the handicapping concept that'll be tried at this year's USIC. The
experts must be kept separate.

For example have a regular A-6 event for all comers and "Sportsman" class
A-6 at the Nats with 1.8gram (or whatever) minimum weight. Definition of
Sportsman would be anyone who was in their first year of indoor competition
flying, or something similar.

"Indoorists" as Mark calls them entering the Sportsman class would have to
be stopped, somehow. Golfers and the RC guys do it and it seems to work.

How popular would mass-market golf be without a handicap system? Do
"indoorists" care about trying to appeal to anyone but the 0.00001% of
population that's esoteric enough to try indoor? Deep Thoughts, gentlemen.
