I asked FAI this and was told that the vast majority of rubber sold is in the 1/8" width for the outdoor fliers. The other widths are made/cut only when the current supply in that width runs out. This makes good business sense for FAI. Indoor fliers may waste a bit more rubber cutting from 1/8" size but if very good rubber is now consistently available, it is now just a minor concern.
