You need to cut them at the dihedral joints anyway, so that's a good place to splice in. Indoor wood is usually cut in 18" lengths, so it is normal to splice together longer spars.

There are different levels of "indoor balsa". For a LPP, you will be fine with standard wood from IMS, Peck-Polymers, or even your local hobby shop (if you sort through it).

When you get into more demanding classes you can start worrying about finer wood from the various people cutting indoor balsa.
