Well - sort of new, apparently there had been access years ago. Regardless, one of the Maxecuters, Mike Guth, negotiated with the University of Maryland and got us access to the old Cole Field House. Access is not free because of the cost to run the lighting, but pretty reasonable at $50/hr. We are working on a contract to get us one Sunday a month (or so), with the potential for future contests.
HVAC was off, and from my understanding generally is not running. There are a couple of vents at the top of the dome, but they seem well enough baffled that it wasn't a problem. Air was pretty smooth - there is some temp flux as the field is below ground and dome above. This was our first day in there, so I'll have a better idea of conditions when we get a few flying days in there.
Ceiling isn't as high as I had heard - but its about 100 ft and doesn't slope at the ends like JC. No scoreboard, but there is a speaker system and some flags in the middle (see pics - I tried to get a few close ups). The flags look like they could be easily raised, but I doubt moving the speakers would be negotiable.
