Model box

Now that I'm eventually about to finish a couple of decent (IMO) F1D's,
I'd need a travel box for them. I guess a aircraft transport size is the
way to go, but the big question is, how to organize the innards? My
models have tip fins like "Big Square", which - I found out - makes
packing the models real difficult.

If I pack the wing and tailplane of a model together, on top of each
other, this takes a lot of room, as for attachment the narrower
tailplane should be on bottom, but due to the tips the wind would then
go all the way over the tail, so it would take 10cm (4") of space for
one model. Not efficient!

Another way would be to place wing and tail on a tray next to each
other, but then these trays would need to be packed on top of each
other, and in practice one would need to take all out of digging for the
model on bottom. I'm scared that this would mean a risk of hangar rash,
with all the models spread out on the desk.

Finally, I could pack tailplanes on one location, wings on the other.
This would probably be the most compact way to pack models, but would
bring the risk of accidentally combining parts from different models.
Also, fixing the surfaces on top of each other is not a trivial task
either, so that they could be easily reached, but still moving next to
each other (during transport) would be minimized.

So, any suggestions for a neat and efficient way to pack models? Thx,
