The surface tension of the fluid draws the film together. So Naptha is fine for that purpose. However, once it dries, the wrinkle will unfold just like it was before.

For the heavier films, you need a decent adhesive to hold the wrinkle together. The reason for naptha is that it a good solvent for 3M 75 and 77. Use a dilute mix of adhesive and naptha (or solvent of your choice) to tighten the film.

I use straight solvent to reactivate the adhesive during the covering process, minimizing the amount of extra adhesive added.
