Carry on boxes

Hi Ben,
You won't be able to sneak by on the extra inch if the box won't fit
in the overhead compartments. Make all possible arrangements to have
your box meet the requirements exactly-or even smaller if possible.
No one would have a problem with an airplane box if it fits in the
overhead compartments. Complicating this is the fact that different
types of planes have different sized overhead compartments. Delta
has been changing the overheads to make them a little bigger, but it
varies on each type of jet. Try to book your flight on a bigger type
of plane. 767 and 757 are ok, Md88 are not bad-I don't know anything
about the 737 types. [I worked for Delta for 31 yrs.] I always
refused to allow a passenger to bring on a carryon that was too big.
It just isn't fair to the other passengers.
You need to try to board early, so that you will find plenty of space
in the overhead. If you are one of the last ones to board, space
will already be taken. Try getting to the gate early, and talking to
the agent while their work load is low. Show them your planes. Most
will be fascinated by the sight, and will most likely help you out.
If you are in a Delta Md 88, there is a closet in first class that
would hold your planes. You will have to talk to the flight
attendents and make sure it isn't put in a spot where someone will
put a bag on top of it.
This is doable, and you will or should find Delta a good airline to
travel on with your planes. Make it easier on yourself and see to it
that your box meets the requirements.

Dohrm
