Re: Re: USIC numbers - kids or no kids

I brought this up in a moment of weakness and was immediately sorry I had done it. It was a rehashing of things that happened when SO kids flew at USIC the first time and they were allowed to do so only by invitation - which none of my extremely capable kids got.

Just think how much better the USIC balance sheet would look if there were an actual effort to get today's SO kids to USIC. And imagine that a few of those kids might be captured for indoor by what they see! My son didn't stick with indoor but I'll never forget walking into the Minidome with him for the first time on Saturday night in 1999 and seeing the look of amazement on his face at the space and the all the models in the air.

As far as the timing goes it has in fact affected a lot of high school competitors who have had to choose between graduation or going to USIC. I'm not offering a solution. I think we're stuck with what we have as long as USIC is at ETSU.

  Nick, Thanks for your comments.
I don't know where the idea came from that older fliers didn't want younger participants at the USIC or any indoor event. I have never been aware of it. All I have ever seen is a willingness to help anyone of any age. People at the USIC are more "focused" that at a local fun fly, but what would you expect at a annual national championship?
