Re: A weird but serious question

I just finished my second wing in about half the time as the first one. I used Nick's method but I attached the ribs with the first spar upside down. This also cured another problem I have of not being able to see when the top of the rib is exactly aligned to the top of the spar. After the spar/rib "fishbone" was done I cut the spar loose from my building glass and weighted the opposite end of the ribs down with scrap balsa so that the first spar was raised in the air. Then I glued the second spar to one of the end ribs. After a few seconds I went down the line and glued the other ribs to the spar. Some minor straightening of the ribs was necessary before the second spar was attached.

The great part was that after I was done all of the ribs were flush with the spars and I didn't have to redo any of the joints like I usually do.

  Bill,

I don't glue both ends at the same time. Weight down the leading or trailing edge, preferably against a steel strait edge and then apply glue to rib and glue it to the spar. After all your ribs are attached to one spar, then glue the other one on one rib at a time.

Back in my days of building with CA I had a pretty easy method of assembling frames. I'm framing up some new F1L's this week and am running into an aggravating problem - I can't get a rib in place before the Duco dries on one or both ends. This is resulting in applying glue 2 or three times before I get the parts connected.

Would anybody care to share a method for doing this?
