It is as you say but with a piece of wood glued to the front post, not boron. It gives a better angle for the bracing at the front end and increases the rigidity at the front when the bracing is pulled tight. Most of us in UK use this set up - it seems not to be so popular on your side of the pond.

Bob,
Are you suggesting that if the brace wire is "pegged" up somewhat
higher against the wingpost, that this (increased steepness of wire
angle to the motorstick) will function to allow more (or rather sooner)
bend of motorstick at the rear, and not as much at nose?
