Well Steve I sincerely wish you good luck with this idea.

Are we to sacrifice the purpose of the only openly touted "Beginners
Event" to the self interest of those who "have spent considerable
effort in developing models that meet the current rules and perform
  extremely well" ?

These people are obviously no longer "beginners" so to protect any self
interest they may have in the event as it is now constituted flies in
the face of the intent of the rules to act as an easily do-able entry
  level event.

The Sci-oly rules change every year and yet there seems to be no lack
of interest from established fliers to build new models and experiment
with the new rules. As far as obsoleting old models - simply ballast-
up the models to the new weight and keep flying!

problem. A-6 is a well established event. A number of people have spent
considerable effort in developing models that meet the current rules
and perform extremely well. Any radical change to the rules would
immediately obsolete those models. I think the result would be an event
that might draw in some newcomers but also might lose some of the
people who currently fly the event.
