You will know that there is a distinctive smell which comes from rubber when its container is opened. This could be a chemical reaction which degrades the rubber and which is inhibited by sealing the container.

I have successfully used crinckly supermarket bags which have no smell (important as well as keeping the rubber cool and out of the light. Brown paper envelopes work well for individual motors.

  Don't know for sure. Only assumed so, since model rubber includes some
  natural organic compound (real tree rubber.) Maybe Fred Rash could
