Thanks for the video of Willard Wigan and his amazing sculptures. I wonder
if you are aware that Willard is (or was) an aeromodeller? I have flown in
a hall at Walsall (near Birmingham) several times, about 10-15 years ago,
when he has been there with a typical, small, spar model which he wound with
an electric winder. To be honest the model would not have won any
competitions but he also used to bring along some of his sculptures, which
really are breathtaking. I particularly remember the royal family carved on
the ends of match sticks which, seen under a powerful magnifying glass, were
recognizable likenesses.

I understood that the earlier work that I saw was done without much special
equipment and I was told that his remarkable eyesight was being studied by
Birmingham University. His later work is much smaller than anything I saw
and raises questions not just of eyesight but hand/eye coordination as well.
A truly remarkable man.
