I like this low ceiling flying also but my goal is to take as long to get to the ceiling as posible, using the VP to control the climb and cruise down with the vp at low pitch. If I hit the ceiling at all it is usually a couple of light bumps after at least 10 minutes of climb. Much safer and easier on the nerves.

Yes, I have come to enjoy this kind of flying too, esp. in conditions
where fewer steers are needed than a typical high ceiling. Instead
of "how high?" the game becomes "how low can you go" (lest you hit the
floor before the second climb--VP.)
