Why would you feel rude? Winding or hooking up out on the floor is
common practice at the World Champs and in many of the fragile events
(there's not much reason to do it in Pennyplane, because you can
practically run with those models). It can be safer and more practical
than inching out with a fully wound motor waiting to take your plane
apart.

And why in the world would it get outlawed? I haven't seen any
problems involving hooking up on the floor. Of course one needs to
practice common courtesy. Just as it's bad form to launch right under
someone, it would be rude to set up you rig right in the circle of
someone who is landing. But that isn't anything intrinsic to the
activity - that's just common sense.
