Race to the Roof

I am intrigued by the 'Race to the Roof' event at the USIC Johnson
City, however I have never seen a 'Race to the Roof' airplane, much
less witness the event. I would appreciate any advice on what a
competitive airplane might look like(be), and what desirable
characteristics such an airplane would have. I have read the rules,
but that's it. Any help would be appreciated and save my family from
any even more embarrassment. Thanks...
