Shipping a model?

Hello,
I have an old limited pennyplane I no longer need. My uncle lives
across the country from me and has been very interested in these
models and how they fly. I thought it might be nice to send him the
old plane so he can play with it a bit and maybe get hooked. Has
anybody had any luck shipping models like this, and if so, how did you
pack it?
Any ideas would be great.
