Marty,
I use Gampi on most of my indoor scale models, except where prohibited by FAC
rules. Ink Jet prints on Gampi with excellent results. I have not tried to
print on wrinkled tissue, so can only speculate that it would be difficult. The
tissue needs to be quite flat to pass smoothly thru the printer. I do
pre-shrink the tissue on a frame before printing. After printing, I let the tissue
dry/relax over night. Sometimes I iron it the next day before covering. By the
way, I like to attach the tissue to the carrier paper with artists REMOUNTABLE
adhesive.
I have had mixed results with glue stick. I find it difficult to impossible
to apply the glue to very light indoor structures & it dries to fast for me to
adjust the tissue. Also, the solvent (water?) in glue stick makes the
structures warp. When applied & allowed to dry, I have difficulty re-activating it.
Alcohol contains water & water makes the ink jet colors bleed. I have used
rubber cement, diluted with naphtha, with better results. I have not tried very
thinned dope to attach the tissue, yet. My concern with dope is that it will soak
in the structure & add too much weight. I am going to try a spray adhesive
(3M or equal) on the framework next.

A few questions about inkjet printed tissue.
- Some folks recommend covering with tissue by applying glue stick to
the frame, letting it dry, then placing the tissue over it and
applying alcohol to re-activate the adhesive. Does this work with
ink-jet printed tissue? I'm wondering whether the ink creates a
barrier to the alcohol or whether the alcohol will cause the ink to
run?
- to avoid warped frames many recommend shrinking or wrinkling the
tissue before covering. Should you do this before or after printing?
- Since shrinking or crumpling up the paper results in the image
paper shrinking do you print oversize? enlarge the image, and if you
enlarge the image, by how much?
- Can you print on Gampi?
= What's the preferred type of tissue to print on?
Thanks a bunch.
