Fred
I haven't used a telescopic carbon rod so they may work great. I've never had a telescopic rod of any other material that I could stand to use. They always seem to collapse at the wrong moment. And if they don't do that then the sections jam and won't collapse when you want them to.

I agree that the put over style is harder to use but to me the reliability is worth the hassle. I'd like to try a quality telescopic carbon pole sometime to see the difference.

Tom Sova and I also bought poles from this guy and they are great, most 11 or 12 meter poles are put over style and must be disassembled to take down these are telescopic so are much easier to use. He has nothing listed at this time but seems to reappear every little while.

  Bill and all,

We use carp poles too, at our 37' site in Colorado Springs. Romash got his
in Europe and it is 12M and breaks down into pretty long sections, about 3'
I'd say. Bill Leppard and I have poles that I found on eBay last year for
less than $100. They are 11M, Made in Japan, carbon, and break down to about
2.5' long. Romash's is slightly stiffer but not much. I usually take the
whippy tip section down on mine and it is very stable.

Here is the same pole but in a 12M version. I *think* this is the same guy I
  bought mine from:
