I've wondered why folks call it a reverse S for the same reason. I
use a set of round nose pliers that I got from Micro-Mark. I think
Tim Goldstein sells some of these too.

I usually bend the hook a little bigger than is strickly necessary,
it makes loading and unloading a wound motor easier.
