Why don't you try some kind of plug in tail boom? This will allow all
kinds of
"excess" length and makes it very easy to to pack. For a bonus, it
makes it easy
  to tilt the stab for turn adjusting. Tail booms also seem to break
easily and plug ins
  make for easier repairs. Also, stabs mounted on posts with sockets
make it really
easy to pack in a small space.
