VD's

I put some photos in a new folder called VD's only. There are 4 pages
from an old INAV article on Jim Richmond's folding VD and a couple of
the remains of one of my sliding spar VD's. I also found 2 pictures of
the original version of DoublePenny with the VD prop. One shows it in
the air with the prop fully extended and the other is at rest with the
prop closed.

In the first article that I saw on the sliding spar design, it was
claimed that you could fly your entire flight at a predetermined
altitude by varying the tension on the rubber band that pulls the
blades in. I never achieved quite that level of success with mine, but
they did perform fairly well the last time I used them which was USIC
2004. My placings weren't very good due to an exploding motor stick in
PP and a floppy tailboom in F1M but the props did their job. I stopped
using them when I got tired of endless repairs and adjustments to keep
them working.
