They shouldn't be, I make them on your principle! Maybe it's the Litespan/Ambroid.

I rest the front end of the spring on the hub but always hace some packing to prevent compression.

As regards the Monokote, if stuck with Balsaloc the glue will allow the join to move, particularly in hot conditions. I have an electric R/C glider covered with Litespan stuck on with Balsaloc and on a hot day in the car the film shrank and dragged along the join with the airframe. I made the mistake of usin tissue/dope techniques and did not overlap the covering from one side to the other. Result slack covering. Perhaps this is happening Stateside where the weather is considerably hotter than ours.
