Re: Charlie Stiles Passing
Hi all,
It is with a sad heart that I must let you all know that I have lost
a flying indoor buddy of some 40 years. Charlie passed peacefully in
his sleep after a long battle with bad kidneys and other major
problems. Up until just two weeks ago he was talking of setting up a
small building board in the nursing home with his tool box so that he
could continue with his life time hobby. He surprised me once at
Lakehurst when he brought out of his prop box one that he had made in
1937. The same year that I was born.
He became Mark Drela's mentor at the Bridesburg Recreation Site when
Mark was a young junior. He shared all of his indoor knowledge and has
helped the Deleware Valley Federation become interested in indoor
flying so that most of us SOTS now fly indoor. He was an excellent
builder of small rog type models, but competed with all of the big
fliers in the PMAA in Philadelphia back in the 30's. He was the
Federation Champion one year when you had to fly FF, Indoor and Control
line. He won only flying indoor events.
Where ever you are flying may you always beat the stop watch.
