Tapio
Here my 2 rules for using or not using tip plates:

1. It's very difficult to use tip plates on models that have no minimum weight or that are difficult to built to minimum weight. This pretty much rules out F1D, IS, HLS, and EZB in my opinion.

2. Tip plates haven't worked well for me on high A/R wings like F1L. They are great on low A/R wings like F1M.

Since I fly a lot of "beginner" classes I use them often. My LPP, PP, F1M and previous SciOly models use tip plates. F1L, EZB, A6 and the new rules SciOly do not.

Now I'm off to Lakehurst in a few hours.

The fashion is "smaller" planes like LRS and SciOly seems to be towards
flat wings with vertical winglets acting also as dihedral. I recall seeing
even one F1M with such wing, but no F1D's yet.

What is the theory/practise behind such wing tips, and will this be the
fashion of tomorrow also in F1D?
