The wind and rain were a pleasant sight for a hardened outdoor
flier… I felt truly relaxed feeling and at home..

Seriously I am overwhelmed to be able to fly amongst some of the
best F1D fliers in the world….9 months ago I had never handled an
F1D, F1L or any other serious `flimsy'… and thought Y2K2 was a
Himalayan mountain!..

All of this was made possible by all of the British contingent
offering me guidance, materials and friendship.

Bob Bailey was the catalyst spending 2 full days aiding and
directing me to construct my first all balsa F1D, showing me the
basic methods in construction and explaining the methodology
required to fly this `extreme' class of model aircraft.

The learning curve is still extremely steep… steering ones model at
`neck ache' heights without destroying it, and trimming my VP unit
have certainly proved to be the most challenging.

My only advice I feel that I am experienced to offer at this early
stage is:…….. don't design your own model, use an established
design.. (Bob Bailey's isn't bad!) and take an umbrella to indoor
events as well as outdoor.

I shall be committing my efforts now to Belgrade next year, ensuring
I have reliable models with `top notch' vp units and plenty of
steering practice. I have an awful lot to do to fully contribute to
the retention of the European title.

As far as the DLG's go I am currently designing a slightly lower
aspect ratio Indoor DLG, with undercamber to try and fly within the
close confines of Cardington … I will keep all informed.
