I'm getting my F1M trimmed out with my first VP and was hoping to get
some input from the group about things to try to further improve
times, particularly with setting up the best VP flight profile.
Plane is based on the Big Bazooka. CG without rubber is just a hair
behind the T.E. I've got the wing at +1 degree and tail at -3
degrees, 0 degrees of downthrust, and about 2 degrees of left. Prop
is 16.5" diameter formed on a 24" block and high and low stops are
currently at 48" and 16" respectively (3:1 and 1:1 P/D). I'm
using .080 JAN '05 TAN SS rubber, wider than what I've read other
people are using for F1M, but I think it should be about right for a
CAT I site at 5500' altitude. Launching at ~1500 turns and ~.42 in-
oz normally.
Flight profile is a very slow decent from 6' down to about 2' for the
first two minutes until the prop comes off the high stop. Climb for
about the next 5 minutes to reach 20-22 feet (no-touch) then descend
for another 4 minutes for a landing around 11:00 with ~75 turns left.
Thoughts on where to find more room to improve? I think I've
probably got a little more time by winding the rubber harder, but the
flight profile pertaining to the VP setup is my main question here.
Thanks,
Eric Monda
