Since there are very few F1L plans available I put together a plan of
my current F1L. There isn't a tremendous amount of building info
included since a lot depends on your individual wood supply and
building techniques. Wood sizes should be used as a guide or starting
point only.
This is a droop boom model based on Bernie Hunt's ideas as used on
some English models a few years ago. The general idea in trimming a
model of this type is to adjust the wing and stab incidence until the
model is flying with the motorstick level. The theory is that having
the thrust line pointed straight ahead gives the most efficient use of
the power.
I like heavier motors than most people use on F1L's. At USIC I was
flying on approximately .060 5/99. (Steve Brown's comment was "Who
would do a thing like that?!"). In fact my most successful flights
have all been on rubber of about that size even in low ceilings.
This model is very dependable. It almost always launches successfully.
It's competition record has been pretty good. Let me know if you have
any questions about it.
