Cabin rules require the fuselage cross section (at its maximum cross
section position) to be at least model length* model length/100. So if
you have a 25" long model, then you need at least 25*25/100= 6.25 sq
inches cross sectional area of the body. I do not see why this rule
needs to be messed with. It is a standing rule for a VERY long time. I
made one cabin model which was 20" long but was too close coupled to fly
well (but only required 4 sq inches cross section area). It was always a
trade off in longer model, then higher drag body ( more area needed), if
we require only 6 square inches, then you could build a 34" long model
(like and old rules F1D) and only require 6inches of cross section area
instead of 11.56" sq inches currently required. The consequence of this
rule is that the models will get long and the flight times will
increase dramatically. Again, it would be nice to see what the intent of
the change is for. I also woudl like to see if it would eliminate any
current records of models less than 24.5" long. I personally would vote
against it, and will let my District Rep know my opinion.
