Tim:

Send your query to the SCAT list (outdoor FAI flyers). There might be some
interest there too.

Subject: [Indoor_Construction] Possible new indoor material

I am looking at having some 0.24mm (0.009") high modulus epoxy matrix
pultrusion carbon fiber made. It is probably about as close in stiffness as
you can get to boron. The advantage to the high modulus material is the
stiffness which is much greater than standard carbon. The material is more
fragile than standard carbon with an elongation at yield of .8% as compared
to 1.5% elongation for normal carbon material. The upside is much greater
stiffness than standard carbon without the safety concerns of boron. To give
an idea of stiffness, a 20" length drops about 5" at the end when clamped to
a surface so there is 20" standing straight out. Weight is about 24 mg/ft.

The material would not be cheap. It would sell for about $1.20/ft and would
have to ship in precut lengths as it is stiff to roll.

Does anyone have any feelings as to whether this would be useful?
