Bill,

I have often wondered about this myself. If a person wants to fun fly,
then why are they concerned about winning? If you are concerned about
winning then you are a competitor, and expected to raise your level of
performance to that of those who wish to compete. The stock answer I
always get is the default that it scares the newcomers away.
