flying at altitude

A number of people have asked about our flight times at Colorado Springs.
Keep in mind the site is at 6000' MSL so models fly faster and times are
lower.

 

As an example my old Cat I HLG does 36-37sec at Colorado Springs which is
36' That's an average sink rate of .99 ft/second. Back in Texas in 1991 I
set the Cat I Senior record with the same glider at a 26' site. Times
averaged 31.5 sec for an average sink rate of .83 ft/sec. Therefore, there's
a 16% worse sink rate at altitude with that glider.

 

So, multiply our contests time by 1.15 - 1.20 to get a "real" idea of how
we're doing.

 

For example, Romash's 9:23 in LPP means he would have done about 11:00 at
sea level in a 36' site
