MMM 2/19/06 Indoor Meet in Colorado Springs

Another excellent Colorado Springs indoor contest is in the books. The air
must have been exceptionally good since many site records were
shattered--half by a wide margin. Further proof of this theory is I've never
had such great flights with my old beater HLG.

Some highlights of the day:

- The blizzard of Science Olympiad kids in attendance, being mentored
by Frank Deis. Frank is really great guy.

- For several years we've all been struggling to break 8:00 in LPP. On
2/19 Bill Leppard and Romash both did it once, then Rob adds an eye-popping
9:23 for good measure!

- Romash's performance in LPP, Ministick, and F1L. huge flights and
site records in all three events.

- After the January contest I drew up an A-6 design and mailed it to a
handful of guys I thought might be interested. Three guys built it for this
contest and all three flew well. Any more takers? A-6 is a really fun event
and easy to build & fly.

- About 20 paid flyers. Enough to pay the rental and pad the club
indoor fund a little!

That concludes this winter's indoor flying at the City Aud. Thanks to all
who attended. We are seeing greater support than ever for these meets.

For those that need an indoor fix this spring and summer, don't forget about
the Wings Over the Rockies flying sessions in Aurora. John Lovins is a doing
a fantastic job maintaining the relationship with the museum. And now the
great news from John is that the museum is open to our flying there ANY
Sunday they don't have something else going on. Currently that means EVERY
Sunday in March is open! More good news is that the Museum would welcome MMM
having a contest there. This is something we are thinking about very
seriously, so stay tuned for an announcement. We don't want to conflict too
much with the outdoor flying dates but we should be able to squeeze in an
indoor contest or two between now and next fall.
