The best way to patch is to prepare patching film which consists of the film
you use for the patch, attached to backing paper. Use offcuts from
preparing film for covering ie on to the frame. Cut out pieces of newspaper
or tissue paper, spray with water until moist and lay onto the film. Lift
the film plus backing from the board and mount in between pieces of soft
kitchen roll for storage; this is excellent for transportation.
To patch the hole, cut out a suitable size patch from the double layer,
spray with water from the atomiser and lay on to the hole. Then the backing
paper can be lifted off to leave the patch in place. The main problem is
that the film does not usually adhere well to the backing paper so some
manipulation may be needed to remove excessive wrinkles.
