Determining balsa stiffness

There is a method to calculate balsa stiffness, by John Taylor (INAV
108, p11) for which you have to cut several strips from a balsa sheet.
Also Bernard Hunt did a study for balsa sheets. Both require (among
other tings), the deflection of the sample. Lately, I was advised that
in Tim Goldstein's Indoor Duration site there is a program that saves
you the calculations, but it does not ask for defection. Anybody there
could help me to understand how could this be calculated without that
figure?
